Review of Hit & Run (2012) by Kenny N — 28 Aug 2012
After seeing 45% on the tomatometer and that only 58% liked it, I nearly passed on what I believe to be the best comedy of the year. Luckily I checked out Roger Ebert's review of the movie and found out some really cool stuff that made me want to go ahead and take a chance on it.
What's the cool stuff? Dax Shepard wrote directed and stars in the movie, with his real girlfriend Christian Bell (Sarah Marshall). What reall caught my eye was the fact that most of the Actors deferred their salaries to help Shepard make his movie.
(the movie was made on less than 2 million and could compare to 100 million dollar productions) Shepard even went so far as to use his own cars in the movie and do some of the stunt driving. No CGI here.
Another thing that makes the movie is that the actors are "in to" making the movie. They're having fun, so you have fun. I had so much fun, I haven't laughed so hard since the first hangover movie.
Were there some "lame" (gotta see the movie to get the reference) shots? Sure, But, 95% of this movie is just blow it out your tailpipe fun. So, is it a Guy Film, Sure, but there's just enough hint of Romantic Comedy thrown in to make it likeable to "chick flick" lovers too.
If this movie doesn't become a hit at the theaters, it will as soon as it hits DVD. So go ahead and take a chance on a Hit and Run.
