Review of Hit & Run (2012) by Jesse O — 16 Feb 2013
While this movie does suffer from a bit of identity crisis in that it doesn't know if it wants to be a comedy, action or a romance (yes...a romance). You can pull this off in movies. It has been done before and it will be done again.
But the film doesn't really know how to mix all these genres together in a seamless matter. But I do think the film is solid and a fun to watch. There's something strange about the movie. In a good way.
It doesn't feel like the cookie-cutter stuff that you're used to and I just thought that it was fun. And this might also be the best movie Tom Arnold has ever been involved in. I realize that's not saying much, but I've never found him funny at all.
In this film, lo and behold, he's actually funny. I couldn't believe it but I enjoyed his character of this Marshal who always fucks things up through his own stupidity. And the rest of the cast is solid as well, it's just that Tom Arnold surprised me here.
The film also has a pretty killer soundtrack and some clever dialogue. It's just a shame that all the different elements of the film didn't come together in a seamless manner because this may have even been a great film.
Still, it's quite fun and definitely a solid rental.
