I used to love this movie when I was a kid. I thought it was very funny. However, watching it as an adult, it's not that great, and, it is actually pretty stupid.

There are some familiar gags in the movie, but, I didn't find anything different to laugh about this time around. I also didn't find anything I might have missed before, as I sometimes like to watch an old movie to see if there was anything funny I might have missed. But, I didn't.

Obviously Mel Brooks went out of his way to make himself the star of this film. He is in almost every scene, and is actually the only one in the movie that was remotely funny.

The rest were all just along for the ride.

Madaline Kahn, and Harvey Korman are the only other actors in the movie who had some funny momments, and Gregory Heinz was entertaining. in his role as the rescued slave. I also thought Dom Deluise was the perfect choice for the emporer of Rome. As the Roman Empire scenes were the best.

Otherwise I would think this movie would probably be low on the Brooks comedy ladder. Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein, and Spaceballs are much better films.
