Review of His Girl Friday (1940) by Lynne N — 18 Feb 2008
Very funny one-liners are what make this movie stand out. Some of the put-downs and witty retorts would work just as well and be considered just as cutting or smart in a modern-day film. Rosalind Russell is fantastic as the street-wise reporter, almost to the point of over-shadowing the great Cary Grant.
Rather a black comedy as well for its day - as the plot revolves around political corruption and the imminent execution of a convicted murderer.
