Review of His Girl Friday (1940) by Daniel S — 07 Dec 2010
Considered by many to be a comedy classic, I sadly cant share in their enthusiasm, while russell and grant are great, they have good chemistry together and good dialogue, the film is very uneven in tone, I cant believe no one ever called it out on it, on one hand it's a romantic comedy, and then it goes dark with a story about a man proclaiming innocence on death row the night before his execution, and they treat it like it's no big deal, and I also didnt like the way they dealt with ralph bellamy's character, some good aspects for sure, just wish it had a better story and was more consistent in tone.
