Review of His Girl Friday (1940) by Liz H — 19 Oct 2010
Much has been said about the off-the-cuff, faster-than-light dialogue in this Howard Hawks gem, and certainly, it's all true. If your blood pressure hasn't risen a few points by the end of this movie, then you've been in another room.
What's terrific about His Girl Friday is not necessarily the pace and comedic timing of the scenes, but rather the fine-combed chemistry between Cary Grant and Rosalind Russel. Their on-screen zing rivals that of famous leading pairs, including Hepburn and Tracy.
