Review of His Girl Friday (1940) by J J — 27 May 2011
Howard Hawks' hilarious comedy starring Cary Grant in one of his best roles as the self-centred, selfish journalist who uses every dirty trick in the book to keep his ex wife from remarrying.
The film moves at a brisk pace and perfectly captures the feel of a frantic press office filled with uncompromising journo's out to do anything to get a story.
Grant plays his role with such wit and charm that you can't help but side with with his otherwise unlikeable character. Rosalind Russell was also excellent as Grant's love interest. Another Howard Hawks classic, the guy is one of the most consistent filmmakers I know of!
