Review of Hiroshima Mon Amour (1959) by G. V — 22 Nov 2007
One of the films that launched the French new wave. The strength lies in the mix of beauty and brutality. The Hiroshima tragedy is documented here in detail. As for the story itself, I found it rather bland.
However, Resnais does very interesting things with the symbolism of the characters. Overall, I can understand why this is considered to be one of the great films of the French new wave, but I cannot see myself watching it often.
