Review of Hiroshima Mon Amour (1959) by Johannes R — 17 Jan 2011
17.1.2011.
Alain Resnais' masterpiece about how our memories create our characters. The film gets its tone right - this is a sad story shared by two characters, their meeting, but it's also a tender one. While a love story about two people finding connection, it is also a story about war and scars it inflicts on people. It's also about accepting the past and trying to live with it. The film is also visually brilliant. The images of the faces, bodies together in shared space. The pacing lets us discover the nuances in the flow.
