Review of Himalaya (1999) by Lyubomir H — 25 Feb 2011
Don't you just hate it when you haven't been around Flixster for a while (or perhaps you have?) and suddenly, one day, you log in and realize one of your movies has magically re-rated itself? I don't, but it IS annoying.
So, it's time for a proper comment.
Valli didn't have in mind anything special, particularly. He just wanted to embrace faithfully an absorbing environment of simplicity, something that creates masterpieces when visionary auteurs are behind the work. From this perspective, Himalaya offers us a journey literally out of "this world". And what I mean with "this world" is "our" world, the noisy, desperating and absorbing one. It can't be really compared with Majidi's jaw-dropping humanism, so this may be a perfect sleeping pill for some.
This excuse of a documentary (just because it is a "fictional" tale) finds a place in memory. If it also found a place in the heart simultaneously, this would be a 5-star experience. Suck on that, "Australia"!
78/100.
