Review of Highway to Hell (1991) by Steve S — 29 Oct 2010
Interesting story of eloping couple that take a wrong turn to hell. Purely fictional and sci-fi orientated, the couple literally take a highway to hell, hence the title. But hell is only hot, not that bad.
The sixties comedy team of Stiller and Myra make a cameo appeatance in Hell's diner during the first half of the film. [Those that remember the team will recognize Stiller as the policeman and Myra as the waitress behind the counter as he asks for a cup of coffee.].
This film is the product of fanciful imagination. Filmed in the desert southwest U.S., lots of desolation and sand. This film is primarily a mind bender, much in the same vein as the old Twilight Zone television dramas.
This movie has all the usual scare tactics that kids are used to today. Its no wonder why I read that film goers are not scared by anything. Thats because everything they see on film is visual. The mind is what needs scaring, what is NOT seen.
Good for teens and easily entertained adults.
Fans of Miami Vice, the 80's television crime series, will recognize the soundtrack performed by Tangerine Dream, the best part of the film.
