Review of Highway (2014) by Nanda R — 20 Sep 2014
Saw it on DVD. The movie is a refreshing change from the usual plot lines. The summary is given under Movie Info, so I will just stick to what worked for me what did not.
Casting was almost perfect. Alia Bhatt as the young, almost too young, girl who relishes in the freedom provided ironically by the kidnapper, has given the performance of her life. Tough for her to top it! Randeep has played his part as the mostly silent rough gangster and slowly realizing his true feelings as good any could have. Cinematography is fantastic and IMO is what makes this move great. We relived our Manali/Shimla trip watching this movie. Plot is simple and the ending managed quite well without it getting too mushy or crazy.
What could have been better? Well, lot of holes in the plot. I feel though that this was deliberate. Making sure of dotting all i's and crossing all t's would have made the film long and tedious to watch. A mistake made in many movies. Here, the director or script writer, rightly leave it to the audience to assume or figure it out. Ex. How the search for her was going on or what happened to the Ransom demand.
Finally, ya, it is worth seeing for the cinematography, good acting and the fresh plot.
