Review of Highlander (1986) by Brandon W — 05 Sep 2016
Highlander is directed by Russell Mulcahy, and it stars Christopher Lambert, Roxanne Hart, Clancy Brown, and Sean Connery in a action fantasy film about a Scottish swordsman who works in an antique store, and is actually immortal who is really good with swords while a villain named Kurgan (Clancy Brown) is going after him.
This movie is my good friend's favorite movie, and I wanted to watch it to see what's so great about it, even though it took me a long time to find it on DirecTV. As an action film, it's not my favorite film nor action film, but it's a fun one to watch.
Other then Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, I haven't seen Christopher Lambert in any other film, so in this, he was pretty good in this. Sean Connery is charismatic in this, and Clancy Brown is having the time of his life that I really think he steals the show and probably overshadows the main character in some moments.
The effects look good for the time, and the action scenes are entertaining to watch. The way it transitions from present day to the old days or vice versa, was really cool and it was done in a way that you probably didn't notice it until a few seconds later.
The songs by Queen are amazing as I'm not much of a fan of him, but the songs worked very well to the movie that I'll get a bit hyped for it. The characters are memorable, the chemistry between Connor and Brenda was fine, although unexpected to see what happened in the end as I didn't really felt a spark between them, and was more feeling more of a spark between Connor and Ramírez.
The story behind it is very original that I honestly thought it was based on a book, but it wasn't, and that made me appreciate it more. Highlander is a great film that I can see why my good friend loves this film, and I just thought it was a fun dumb film.
