Review of Higher Learning (1995) by Daniel S — 26 Aug 2010
Although it is rather far-fetched and over dramatic, Higher Learning is a pretty Powerful film as it tackles social issues such as racism, sexism, politics, and overall universal unity. We see the movie through the eyes of three students, Malik(Omar Epps), Kristen(Kristy Swanson), and Remy(Michael Rapaport) as they go their first semester of freshmen year at Columbus University.
The school's one big problem is racism, and almost every race of students hang out in groups of their own people, which with some people starts to cause some racial tension. As the film begins to progress Remy moves out of his dorm with Fudge(Ice Cube) because of his loud conditions and eventually goes on to join a group of these 3 white supremacists.
Later on Remy begins to start problems with Malik because of his color building major tensions throughout the remainder of the movie from that point on. The acting is great, the dialogue is great, and the story is phenomenal.
The only major problem is some of the unrealistic happenings, and events on campus, besides that John Singleton continues to please and doesn't quit. Definite Must See.
