In Higher Ground, Corinne (played by Vera Farmiga) challenges the social and religious norms set by the community she belongs to. It is that life, which she embraced so earnestly when younger, that makes it unbearable to continue living at home.
Corinne eventually leaves to pursue a more joyful experience for herself and her children, although this new reality quickly turns sour.
