Review of Higher Ground (2011) by Leighton T — 05 Nov 2011
A personal and subtle directing debut from Vera Farmiga takes on the story one woman among a zealous Christian sect and chooses to show her faith and subsequent doubt without any commentary or judgment.
Farmiga directs herself in the lead role and show great visual restraint in how she presents these characters, especially those outside of her role. It's especially honest and forthright, and though it does contain the usual sheen we've grown to see out of indie films as of late, it's beautiful story and character-wise.
This is an exciting and wonderful debut.
