Review of Higher Ground (2011) by Manny C — 14 Jan 2012

After watching "Higher Ground", I would be very curious to talk with Vera Farmiga about what drew her to the material of this movie for her directorial debut. In many ways, this is a fascinating movie about faith and doubt and how one girl traverses this distance and then perhaps questions her journey at the end.

This is certainly a very fair portrayal of a tight knit evangelical community by Hollywood's standards. The conversation and script seem to be realistic with conversation topics. Its a shame that the movie itself (particularly the beginning) feels a little episodic and the journey of faith to doubt could have been fleshed out a lot more with better dialogue.
