Review of High School Musical 3: Senior Year (2008) by Yvonne G — 15 Oct 2009
I did not enjoy this one as much as the others. It appears that the franchise was given all this extra money due to the success of the previous two movies, and they just went too all out. It lacks the purity of the first two, story-wise and production-wise.
The stage number in the middle of the movie was way too gaudy (with the cluttered stage props and abundance of revolving stages), and the music to the songs was way too loud and messy to the point that you could barely hear the kids singing.
What makes me give it an okay rating is that I appreciate the innocence of the franchise (the first two, anyway, since I didn't enjoy watching Hudgens jumping around in a short dress during one of the dance numbers with Efron before she was unnecessarily drenched by rain), and the closing number was a callback to that innocence.
