Review of High-Rise (2015) by Sultan A — 30 Mar 2016
High-Rise presents it's themes regarding glamorization, luxury, deviation, & power, through happenings that illustrate the true effects of beatified wealth. The film's infinite occurrences that stem from one's strive for utmost power are depicted with great resonance; however, the multiple warlike events that ensue from the desirous characters of the lower floor of the building - the architect of which resides on the uppermost floor, living a life of luxury that the 'mundane' desire - who's various aspects are depicted quintessentially, particularly those of Luke Evans & Tom Hiddelston, both of whom are shown to be torn between their innocent lives, as well as the life of power & glamorized luxury which they strive for.
Ben Wheatley, along with his collaborator, Amy Jump, ensures that the entirety of the characters' stories and aspects are presented with depth through his guiding direction, whilst the film's score is conducted tremendously by Clint Mansell.
The entirety of adaptation proves not only well-written, but also visually stunning, thanks to the mostly great cinematography, especially the scenes which depict the external features of the building, where viewers are immersed into it's breathtaking nature.
