Review of High-Rise (2015) by Ken S — 18 May 2016
Based on a book from the 70s, this film takes the 70s style and creates a whole new world. It almost feels like an alternate 1970s that the film takes place in. It revolves around a handsome Doctor who moves into a new High-Rise building filled with rich people.
..but the residents become somewhat shielded from the world outside the building, and as the building's infrastructure begins to collapse, the residents of the lower floors and the upper floors begin to battle one another and the entire society of affluent people begins to collapse.
It has some decent social commentary, a great visual style, and it is fun to see all the 70s looks...but the movie felt like it was glossing over elements or was just missing some key ingredient to make it truly great.
