Review of High-Rise (2015) by Matthew T — 02 Jan 2017
Bizarre! I was not sure what I was getting into with this film. I love Ben Wheatley and should have expected something of this surrealist vein however this portrayal of a dystopian future whilst I think could be making statements about society, I am not sure if it is or if it is they are too obvious.
Either way I was not sure about any comments it could be making on that matter. I think the focus on the block on its removal/place from/in society is intriguing. I understand it is based on something by J.
G Ballard but I don't know what but this does make sense and I need to learn more about that. It had the feel of Brazil without the clear humor or message. Certainly not my favourite Wheatley and other films of his are more clearly humorous.
