Review of High Plains Drifter (1973) by Abhimanyu Sammy S — 07 Feb 2010
There's an old Indian ( Red ) saying...the first ten minutes of a western tell you what's it's like. Just kidding....about that Indian saying part!
Very few westerns can boast of a starting like this one. Perhaps the most strikingly simple and extended opening scene we have here.
With all the makings of a brilliant movie this Clint Eastwood flick is perhaps the embodiment of of all western cult classics.
As always the lines between the good and the evil as well as ethics, morality , righteousness and their antipodes is blurred.
With an impressive background score...good even by the high standard set by the great composer Morricone , High Plains Drifter surely has to be one of the best movies of the genre.
Often overshadowed by Eastwood's more famous titles like the The Good The Bad and The Ugly and the other two movies in the trilogy, High Plains is for me in no way lesser than these movies.
The humour is good and continues the The Good..... tradition of sending out messages through harsh humour .
This is one western you shouldn't miss.
