Review of High Plains Drifter (1973) by Ian B — 04 Mar 2011
One of Eastwood's best westerns (and the first he directed). He's obviously paying homage to his films with Sergio Leone, as he resurrects the 'man with no name' character, although this time around there are some supernatural undertones that separate this from his many other westerns.
The revenge story is a familiar one, but it's acted and directed so perfectly that everything seems fresh. High Plains Drifter might not be as popular as Eastwood's more epic westerns, but it's one of my personal favorites.
