Review of High Plains Drifter (1973) by Martin S — 30 Jul 2008
A tale of vengeance in the wild west that's stripped of its sense of justice, and is almost sadistic in the way it plays out. There's little sense of satisfaction as the "protagonist" makes the town pay for their ignominous acts.
This movie avoids many of the clever or impressive displays of gunfighting or horse-riding that highlights other westerns, preferring rather to focus on the brutal force of Clint's nameless character as he bullies people around.
It's a typical western that's above-average, but don't go out of your way to see it.
