Review of High Plains Drifter (1973) by Janin W — 23 Aug 2008
An existentialist western? Having watched this film and CARNIVAL OF SOULS I was able to correctly guess the secret twist ending in THE SIXTH SENSE. John Wayne enjoyed the film but did not approve of Eastwood's handling of the townspeople.
Out of the entire town, only two people the stranger (Eastwood) meets are sympathetic (Billy Curtis & Verna Bloom's characters), everyone else is self-absorbed, petty, cowardly, and greedy.
