Review of High Plains Drifter (1973) by Corey N — 19 Jul 2010
This is a solid western directed and starring Clint Eastwood. A very dark western storyline. About a gunslinger who comes to town and kills off the town's protection when they try and start a fight with him.
So the town hires him to protect their town from three gunslingers who want revenge on the town. But this stranger is more then he appears. He knows of the town dark secret and turns their world into hell.
Through out the film and even in the end you wonder if this stranger is more then he appears. Not sure if there is a supernatural twist to this western tale. The stranger has no qualms about rapping and killing the people in the town.
Eastwood plays a perfect anti hero. This character is much darker then his Sergio Leone gunslinger days. The film is well done. Eastwood of course gives his great performance in the dark gunslinger role.
The look and direction of the film is well done. The story may not appeal to all but if your looking for a different type of western then give this a watch. Eastwood has done better westerns but this is still worth watching.
