Review of High Plains Drifter (1973) by Peter F — 25 Dec 2012
High Plains Drifter is the first western that Clint Eastwood directed, and it actually might surprise people that it's a little weird. I'm not talking El Topo here, but High Plains Drifter is maybe 30% a ghost story, and also seems to condone the protagonist for raping a woman.
Still, it's arguably one of his most visual films too, with a few sequences that are actually surreal. Certainly more than just a curio in the director's immense filmography.
