Review of High Fidelity (2000) by Karen L — 03 Apr 2010
John Cusack tries to bring back a version of the roles that made him famous in the 80s; the hopeless romantic loser in his 20s, except this one is about a hopeless romantic loser in his 40s who can't keep a girlfriend and he doesn't know why.
He speaks directly to the viewer as he tries to figure out why he's doomed to be single, which is kind of cool, but besides breaking the 4th wall, there's very little that's actually cool about this film.
The story is weak, and actually forgets the story it's telling, and our main character is hard to love. Simply put, there's just something missing in this movie, and that something keeps it from being considered a classic like "Say Anything," or "Better Off Dead.
" And it doesn't help that Jack Black is once again, Jack Black from every other movie he has ever been in.
