Review of High Fidelity (2000) by Chris B — 21 Jul 2018
Here is a cleverly told romantic comedy featuring great comedic performances by John Cusak and Jack Black. One of the highlights is the music nerd scene that is featured, with plenty of references to both well-known and obscure, but fantastic, albums/songs/artists.
Naturally, the soundtrack is great as well. The direction and pace of this movie is also a highlight. It moves along quickly, mixing in flashbacks, fantasy, and conversations with the audience into a coherent story that captures the semi-linearity of personal evolution.
The story itself is about a record store owner working his way through the romantic relationships of his past, in an effort to mature and move on with his life. He is pretty shallow, but the relationships and plotline work fine and are real enough.
It's a fun watch.
