Review of High Art (1998) by Jennifer A — 04 Jul 2005
High Art is a drama about a magazine editor Syd (Radha Mitchell) who is in an unsatisfying relationship with boyfriend James (Gabriel Mann). A leaky ceiling prompts her to go upstairs where she meets photographer Lucy (Ally Sheedy) who has some serious issues of her own, including her rocky relationship with girlfriend Greta (Patricia Clarkson).
Lucy and Syd develop a friendship and the more. The film is terribly uneven but touches on some serious issues like drug addiction and depression. Ally Sheedy and Patricia Clarkson are very good in this film although some of the other actors are less than inspiring.
