Review of High Art (1998) by Nelson R — 03 Aug 2010
High Art? Almost. Lisa Cholodenko's feature directorial debut craftily depicts the fragile professional and passionate personal relationship between two women. The women are beautifully developed characters that are extremely recognizable without being commonplace.
The actresses portraying these women drop all vanity just like Cholodenko drops all sympathy as she chronicles the women's few moments together. I wanted the women to be together professionally so that the artist could be encouraged and truly inspired and the editor could get her big break, but I wasn't completely sold on the romance; they almost got me there though.
