Review of High Anxiety (1977) by Shane D — 09 Nov 2010
So being a Hitchcock fan and a moderate Mel Brooks lover, I was very much looking forward to watching this. For mine, a lot of Brooks' previous work, with exception of Spaceballs and Blazing Saddles, are more amusing that hilarious and High Anxiety probably falls in line with the rest of his body of work.
Whilst not being crammed full of laugh out loud moments, there is plenty to respect here, and not just for the faithful homages paid to Hitchcock's body of work. There are the typical sight gags and slightly old fashioned slapstick, all of which are brilliantly constructed, in all reality, you'd be a cold hearted human being if you didnt succumb to Mel Brooks' on screen charm.
Madeline Kahn does another stellar job in a reduced role in comparison to her other Brooks collaborations. Overall, its held up reasonably well.
