Review of High and Low (1963) by Juan Carlo V — 09 Feb 2013
"High and Low" or "Heaven and Hell" is so much more than just a detective-thriler/crime drama...like it's ambiguous title. This is the masterpiece of the "police procedural" genre, and It really is!; but it's also so much more than just a crime/detective-thriller film... The meaning is complex/ dark and excellent.
The film is always comparing the both sides and decisions of human life: the good and the bad, the poor and the rich, the high and the low...Heaven and Hell! The film is even divided into 2 "parts". The High and then The Low... Heaven and then Hell. Kurosawa is a Genious.. He did it again, Another Masterpiece!!!!! it had interesting/ excellent imagery, and a really well-crafted meaning of a modern Hell and a Heaven. I loved it! It means so much more... the train sequence is just pure gold.
