Review of High and Low (1933) by Jason M — 08 Oct 2007
Not kurasawa's finest. this film seemed as though it was trying to accomplish too much in a single picture. it was an examination of morality vs success, the guilt attached with redemption, drug use, and the divide between those with and those without.
whilst there are some beautiful images (the sunglassed kidnapper obviously influenced elijah wood's character in sin city) and the shooting the entire first hour in a single room was a innovative idea the whole movie felt strained in lacking in cohesion.
