Review of High and Low (1933) by Patrick B — 29 Aug 2008
A fantastic crime movie that ends just a bit too abruptly. The majority of its two hour, twenty-three minute running time never quite reaches the great dramatic heights (pun intended) of the "chamber drama" section of the film inside the hilltop mansion.
Nevertheless, the detective work comes bloody close, and this 1963 Japanese film about crime and punishment (among many other things) still bests any American thriller I've seen recently!
