Review of High and Low (1933) by Bill B — 09 Jan 2012
The story of a kidnapping gone wrong, the film comes to a head on the verge of a businessman trying to gain primary control of the business that he's made successful, only to have what he thinks is his son kidnapped. When it's revealed that the kidnapper's have accidentally grabbed his servant's son, leaving him with the dilemma of using his fortune to pay the ransom or make his power play in his business.
The latter half of the film is the more interesting, as we follow the investigation into the who and way of the kidnapping, leading to a fairly satisfying conclusion.
I have to say that I appreciate Kurosawa films more than I tend to like them, which sounds like an awful 'review', but I seem to watch them based on their influence more than the enjoyment of finally watching them.
Worth a rental for sure.
