Review of Hide and Seek (2005) by Ryan S — 24 Oct 2010
I really liked this movie, I know there's a lot of hate towards it, but I thought it was great. The twist ending gets a bad rep and is it anything original? No. Yes, it's been done before, but I don't think in this case it was nearly as predictable as people claim.
I'll admit, I didn't call it until shortly before it happened, and I pride myself in being quite good at predicting twists. A lot of the reason for me liking this movie so much is definitely De Niro performance, he is just awesome and put anyone else in that role and yeah, it might have sucked, but it's not solely De Niro's performance that drives this film.
Dakota Fanning is also surprisingly good, I'd go so far as saying her best performance so far. They also do a great job of building suspense and interjecting sub-plots which gets you wondering exactly what's going on and causes you to build theories and doubt things.
The story keeps you very interesting and keeps you continuously guessing and is a great psychological thriller, one of the best in recent years.
