Hidden Figures:Reaching for the stars.
A movie review on Hidden Figures by Theodore Melfi.
Hidden Figures by Theodore Melfi is a thrilling story of how african american women strove to break the standards of segregation and become the best in the engineering field at NASA, a space program. Katherine Goble Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan, and Mary Jackson were three african american women who were great at both math and problem solving. They contributed to one of the United States most miraculous events when they helped launch John Glenn into space.
Hidden Figures is a movie and book based off a true story. When the story was told in the setting of the 1940's, African-American and women were discriminated against in many aspects of their life. Katherine,Dorothy, and Mary were black women working at NASA in the east wing with multiple other black women. That all changed when Katherine was offered a new job in the East wing with all white males. They looked down upon her at first but soon they realized she and the rest of the women would be a key math component in beating other countries in the race to space.
Hidden Figures deserves a ? star rating. The quality of the cinematography is outstanding. The way the movie is set in the time period of discrimination but the quality is clear is amazing. The perspective of the opening scene adds onto the star rating. It shows what talents the women have from the beginning and incorporates a sense of discrimination The reason one point was taken off was because of the way the story was told. Most movies don't show the whole plot as there's no enough time but the movie seemed very untrue to the real story. Women were treated unfairly most of the time at NASA but Katherine Johnson did work as hard to achieve a higher position.
This film should be suitable for childern to adults ages 10 and up because the themes can not be fully undestanded if the audience is young. This film would also be enjoyable for people interested in African-American history,NASA's history, or interested in learning about discrimination. Hidden Figures is out of this world extrodinary and is worth the time to watch.
