Review of Hey Arnold! The Movie (2002) by Brian S — 21 Aug 2010
A pretty forgettable chapter in the franchise. I always loved Hey Arnold as a kid, and my appreciation for it continues to grow. its humour is a mixture of dry wit and corny zingers that cover a broad range of maturity levels.
the writing is also incredibly clever and intelligent, being crude and silly sometimes but serious and sincere other times. this film kept to all those basic principles, but it added nothing new. it provided no character depth, no inspiring subplots, no major twists to the continuity of the TV series.
...it was just an adventure that took 75 minutes to take instead of 11. the one thing it almost got right: does the girl FINALLY get the boy? well, like several episodes of the show, she sure comes close.
but ultimately, Arnold saves the day and the world goes back to normal. except in movie form.
