Review of Hesher (2010) by Ravikiran A — 06 Aug 2011
Meet Hesher. Hesher is crude. Obnoxious. Anti-social. violent. And therapeutic. Interesting concept, with brilliant performances, but falls flat with its non-engaging storyline. Lovable characters, but kinda unrelatable.
The movie seems to be Rabbit Hole with metal, arson and tattoos, with people trying to cope with loss and depression, and how a mostly-unlovable antisocial guy teaches them about life.
Beautiful believable performances by Gordon-Levitt, Rainn Wilson and Devin Brochu, the movie is unpretentious, without any sugar coating or light-hearted characters. It is dark, depressing, with a lot of black humor and scenes which would make one cringe..
Definitely worth a watch.
