Review of Hesher (2010) by Kaitlyn L — 12 Sep 2011
Hesher... What a strange, but unique character, and story. Joseph Gordon Levitt really brought the character to life with his great performance as a metal loving, marijuana smoking, alcoholic pyromaniac who drives an old school conversion van and uses empty properties as a place to live.
Up until a young boy named T.J., played by a talented boy named Devin Brochu, accidentally brings the cops right to Hesher's doorstep and forces him to relocate into T.J.'s home after stalking (more like tormenting) him for a few days afterward.
T.J. lives with his Grandmother who has Cancer and his Father who is an unemployed mess after recently losing his wife in a car accident. This battle of the broken hearted between a grieving Father and Son to become a family again and start moving on together is quite the comedic yet slightly disturbing twist when you toss Hesher into the mix.
This film has some great dialogue, amazing storyline and excellent actors including Natalie Portman. Although the film is slightly a comedy, it has it's dark moments. However it's impossible not to feel for each character throughout the film.
This movie was brilliantly written and directed and I highly recommend it to anyone. Enjoy!
