Review of He's Just Not That Into You (2009) by Niloo R — 21 Jul 2014
I remember the first time I watched this film I didn't particularly like it but I found it revolutionary just because of what it had to say about male-female relationships. watching it again over 3 years later, I gotta say, it felt a bit elementary - their problems seemed so obvious and the characters, especially the females seemed a bit dumb.
but I mean, it wasn't unrealistic because people, myself included, become irrationally stupid where feelings are involved. watching the film this time around, I found it more amusing and more relatable - just because I had a few more experiences so more resonated with me.
I liked the initial concept, hollywood stereotypes aside - I mean movies are always about the "exception", the "one in the million" story, so I liked the idea of making a film about the other million and the problems they face.
the film however totally ruined its premise by caving in with a happy ending for all - it's like "oh wait, you all WERE the exceptions", which I thought was more than a little cheesy and at the end of the day, a cop-out.
the unbearably corny dialogue that was littered in the third act didn't really help either.
