Review of Hero (2012) by John M — 14 Jul 2011
In this humble viewer's opinion, the prettiest movie ever made. In feudal China, there were seven kingdoms. The King of Qin was the most powerful of the lot, so, naturally, there were many ready to take his life.
His three biggest threats were the assassins Sky, Snow and Broken Sword. A nameless warrior appears at the King of Qin's palace, claiming to have defeated all three. The colors in this movie are nothing short of astounding.
The way that the shots are set up mixed with the fluent fight choreography are just gorgeous. Sure, the themes here borrow heavily from Kurosawa's Rashomon, but it does so incredibly well and the cinematography is next to perfect.
It's a visual feast that even those who aren't fans of martial arts can appreciate.
