Review of Hero (2012) by Jason R — 17 Sep 2011
Great story telling and amazing use of color in this Rashomon style story in which one even is told in three different ways as the king of a warring country tries to find out the truth of what happened to three assassins from a mysterious nameless man.
Jet-Li doesn't really do that much since he is playing the straight character but Tony Leung Chiu Wai, Maggie Cheung, and Ziyi Zhang act circles around him because of how their stories are scripted (they essentially are playing the same role three different ways).
The movie sometimes moves a bit slow and there were some issues with the translation that led to some debate.
