Unlike in House of Flying Daggers, the color motifs enhance the layered story told here, presenting a world of flying swordsmen, blind zither players and delicate raindrops pattering on the cobblestones.

There is a deep and soulful serenity at the heart of this picture, and it is one of the best wuxia films ever made.
