Review of Hero (2007) by Michael R — 01 Apr 2011

Now I will say this first, this movie has a lot of great action scenes, mostly that gets people interested in movies. Well a namless assassin meets up with the emperor to tell him what he has accomplished. He first tells him about the battle he had with a lanced wielding warrior, next comes two warriors. This is where he talks about how there was a school teaching calligraphy, one of the warriors wants to know about the best letter to make. Soon the school is attacked, but the female warrior including the nameless assassin. The man is soon found who just slept with a student of his, the woman then kills the man and the assassin tells that he killed her in battle. The emperor soon finds out that was a lie and the assassin continues the story, I wont say anymore since that would spoil the whole movie.

Pros- The action is nice, a little insane at times, but just fun to watch. The characters are nice as well, the assassin is a great warrior and goes through a lot in his mission. The other two warriors are also big how one wants the emperor to die while the other doesnt. The emperor himself is an enjoyable character, and to the people he is a tyrant, but he is just an emperor trying to do what is best for his country. During the fights there are a lot of amazing details in them like the leaves scattering and the water splasing. The ending is great as well, a little cliche though, but trust me you will like it.

Cons- There is some over reacting, but it fits because of some of the situations the characters are in. As I said about the ending its a little cliche and there are other parts like that as well, but it doesnt kill the film. Some people could get confused about the story telling, because the assassin lies at times, but it isnt that hard to realize what happened, also there are diff colors during those scenes to tell you what is the truth or not.

Overall- A great film, plot is simple, but improves to be more complex then you think.
