Review of Herø (2001) by Christine T — 12 Oct 2014
This movie is the Titanic of technology movies, so many people seem to love it, but I thought ti was terrible. As hard as I tried to suspend disbelief, I could not. I think it pathetic to lower humans to be so needy and stupid that they can fall in love with an inanimate object that is programmed to mimic real human emotions.
But maybe I am too idealistic as people do seem to value material objects over other humans in this culture. I also can't get over the part about publishing the book of letters. Does it not occur to anyone that these letters will be read by the people who thought they were from someone else? And that somehow that the OS was able to transcend the material world, while the human could not differentiate between the fact that the computer was a program while people are living beings who hopefully do have souls that transcend the material realm was just ludicrous.
What a bad bad movie. The only reason I could even give it two stars was for Peonix's performance and nice set design.
