Review of Herø (2001) by Jonathan B — 26 Feb 2015
Beautiful. Subtle. Consistent. I loved the design. The future not seeminly so drasticaly differnt from the now, but still different and still familiar. A more natural extension of the present. A great detail of that is how the costume design used fashions natural cycles to bring back what we call today, a vintage style, again into the future. That vintage style was popluar 40 years ago, and according to cycles will be popular in some way again 40 years from now, or roughly when the movie takes place. Joaquin Phoenix is sensational. The graphic scenes, are quick but so effective and well placed. Not gratuitous. Totally called for. Totally necessary.
The slight twist at the end seems questionable at the moment. But you find a way to go with it because it is absolutely the natural continuation of Samantha's evolution. It seems kind of funny, But makes sense.
