Review of Hero (1983) by Mat K — 30 Nov 2009
Strong, but small, story told in an interesting narrative device. The use of colours as a way to distinguish between the story telling was cool and effective. The scale of the movie was epic and yet it kept its intimacy.
Also, there was of course so kick ass fight scenes. It was interesting how the film maker could toe the political line perfectly (Only in a united China can there be peace, and the suffering of the few is nothing compared to the greater good) and yet still be subversive.
The down side to the movie is that do to its almost complete void of humour, by the end I found myself laughing at some unintentionally funny moments just to lighten things up.
