Review of Hereditary (2018) by Dohmetacritic10 — 08 Jun 2018
Nope. the concerns about hype are real. That, and you've seen all of this before. Many, many times.
It's not that this is a bad movie, it's just not anything like the stellar effort we were told to expect. When you watch this you're going to see things you've seen numerous times in other movies, going all the way back to Jacob's Ladder. There are moments that disturb and a couple of jump scares. The audience I saw the movie with were talking among themselves and it was a universal "Meh". Absent the promotional effort this could have gone straight to video. Toni Collette is the only reason to pay full price, and that's a statement about her performance and it's greatness. Maybe a matinee. Or you could just revisit The Conjuring and experience a much better movie, that provides much more powerful scares.
